Parash 47 Re’eh (see) 11:26 –16:17

Synopsis

"See," says Moshe to the people of Israel, "I place before you today a blessing and a curse" --  the blessing that will come when they fulfill God's commandments, and the curse if they abandon them. These should be proclaimed on Mount Gerizim and Mount Eibal when the people cross over into the Holy Land.

A Temple should be established in "the place that God will choose to make dwell His name there" where the people should bring their sacrifices to Him; it is forbidden to make offerings to God in any other place. It is permitted to slaughter animals elsewhere not as a sacrifice but to eat their meat; the blood, however (which in the Temple is poured upon the Altar) may not be eaten.

A false prophet, or one who entices others to worship idols, should be put to death; an idolatrous city must be destroyed. The identifying signs for kosher animals and fishes, and the list of non-kosher birds (first given in Leviticus 11) are repeated.

A tenth of all produce is to be eaten in Jerusalem, or else exchanged for money with which food is purchased and eaten there. On certain years this tithe is given to the poor instead. Firstborn cattle and sheep are to be offered in the Temple and their meat eaten by the Kohen (priest).

The mitzvah of charity obligates a Jew to aid a needy fellow with a gift or loan. On the Sabbatical year (occurring every seventh year) all loans are to be forgiven. All indentured servants are to be set free after six years of service.

Our Parshah concludes with the laws of the three pilgrimage festivals -- Passover, Shavuot and Sukkot -- when all should go to "see and be seen" before God in the Holy Temple.

Theme & Message a simple game of follow the leader. Follow HIS perfect ways get the perfect blessing. Don’t follow the perfect way get the perfectly suited punishment.

Chapters:

D’varim/Deuteronomy 11 -

In this chapter, the exhortation to love Adonai and keep his commands, is repeated and urged again and again from various considerations; as not only from the chastisement of Pharaoh and the wicked Egyptians, but of such Israelites who offended the Adonai, and transgressed his law.

The people are exhorted to obedience from a consideration of Adonai’s goodness to their fathers in Egypt, Deu_11:1-4, and what he did in the wilderness, Deu_11:5, and the judgment on Dathan and Abiram, Deu_11:6, and from the mercies of God in general, Deu_11:7-9. A comparative description of Egypt and Canaan, Deu_11:10-12. Promises to obedience, Deu_11:13-15. Dissuasives from idolatry, Deu_11:16, Deu_11:17. The words of Adonai to be laid up in their hearts, to be for a sign on their hands, foreheads, gates, etc., Deu_11:18, taught to their children, made the subject of frequent conversation, to the end that their days may be multiplied, Deu_11:19-21.

If obedient, Adonai shall give them possession of the whole land, and not one of their enemies shall be able to withstand them, Deu_11:22-25. Life and death, a blessing and a curse, are set before them, Deu_11:26-28. The blessings to be put on Mount Gerizim and the curses on Mount Ebal, Deu_11:29, Deu_11:30. The promise that they should pass over Yardan, and observe these statutes in the promised land, Deu_11:31, Deu_11:32.

Deu 11:26  "See, I am setting before you today a blessing and a curse —

I think this is where Shakespeare got “To be or not to be” If you follow the Lord’s Laws you will get blessed and if you don’t evil will be on your doorstep. To be a true believer or not to be that is the question.

Deu 11:32  And you are to take care to follow all the laws and rulings I am setting before you today.

Taking care of things that truly matter. The glossing over of this scripture and those like it enables satan to take over the body of Messiah.

D’varim/Deuteronomy 12 -

In this chapter orders are given to destroy all altars, pillars, groves, and images, made for the worship of idols in the land, Deu_12:1-3; and God’s service to be duly performed, Deu_12:4-7. The difference between the performance of that service in the wilderness and in the promised land, Deu_12:8-11. The people are to be happy in all their religious observances, Deu_12:12. The offerings must be brought to the place which God appoints, and no blood is to be eaten, Deu_12:13-16. The tithe of corn, wine, oil, etc., to be eaten in the place that God shall choose, Deu_12:17, Deu_12:18. The Levite must not be forsaken, Deu_12:19. All clean beasts may be eaten, but the blood must be poured out before the Lord, and be eaten on no pretense whatever, Deu_12:20-25. Of vows, burnt-offerings, etc., Deu_12:26, Deu_12:27. These precepts are to be carefully obeyed, Deu_12:28. Cautions against the abominations of the heathen, Deu_12:29-31. Nothing to be added to or diminished from the word of God, Deu_12:32.

Deu 12:2  You must destroy all the places where the nations you are dispossessing served their gods, whether on high mountains, on hills, or under some leafy tree.

Deu 12:3  Break down their altars, smash their standing-stones to pieces, burn up their sacred poles completely and cut down the carved images of their gods. Exterminate their name from that place.

Adonai knows how He designed us. We as a people are designed to worship. We will worship anything. So as a precaution and a command we were supposed to take down any reference to other gods so we would not end up being prostitutes. Sacred poles (See below). This has been a problem through out Israel’s history.

Asherah Poles in today’s church

As the cross began as a literal tree or pole but later became an artistic expression, Asherah was stylized as a pole in the form of an obelisk, column or even church steeple. As the symbol of sun-worship or of Baal the pole represented the sexual union which created all of earth's fertility.

The word "image" is translated from different Hebrew words. The word, matzebah, means "standing images" or obelisks (1 Kings 14:23; 2 Kings 18:4, etc). The obelisk only had power through symbolic magic if it was standing upright or fully erected. The matzebah pointed upward to the hammanim or "sun image" which were dedicated to the sun or obelisks (Isaiah 17:8; 27:9).

According to Hislop, in Babylon, the golden image of the Sun was exhibited for the worship of the people. The Paeonians of Thrace were sun-worshippers; and in their worship they adored an image of the sun in the form of a disk at the top of a long pole. Hislop identifies with the quotation above from 2 Chronicles.

Because the sun was really the god and the standing, erect column was pointed at "him," this was symbolic of man's power over the sun god represented as sexual power. Therefore, when Israel pointed their power poles upward it was an affront to the one True God and he demanded that they "shall not stand up", but must be cast down

Inside St. Peter's the four-fold Asherah poles are crowned with the sun image in the form of the sunburst and repeated in the "wafer" of the communion. To the left another sun-image appears.

The four-fold images of jealousy with the Babylonian (and Aztec) sun god.

In about 40 A.D., Caligula brought an obelisk from Heliopolis, Egypt and erected it where St. Peter's in Rome now stands. This was from Bethshemesh of which Jeremiah wrote:

Jer 43:13  He will also break the standing-stones of the temple of the sun in the land of Egypt and burn to the ground the temples of the gods of Egypt." ' "

"Byblus, which claimed to be the oldest city of the Phoenicians, was famous at least in the millennium before Christ, for its magnificent temple of Astarte. It was on a height, not far from the sea, and travelers still find there a massive piece of masonry which seems to have been the pedestal of a column. We know, in fact, that the chief object of veneration, the emblem of the goddess, in the great open court of the temple, was a phallic stone: a tall cone or obelisk. Astarte was, very frankly, the goddess of love, and her sanctuary was an unblushing garden of love. But with Astarte was associated a handsome young male god, Adonis ("the Lord"). How could people be satisfied with a goddess of love without a lover?" Joseph McCabe (1925)

Deu 12:6  You will bring there your burnt offerings, your sacrifices, your tenths [that you set aside for Adonai], the offerings that you give, the offerings you have vowed, your voluntary offerings, and the firstborn of your cattle and sheep.

We see the offering of the tenth that is set aside for Adonai. It is all HIS and He is willing for you to keep 90% this is a good deal. We see in this the voluntary offering. We might want to ask what does it mean to give something just because you were blessed already.

Deu 12:8  You will not do things the way we do them here today, where everyone does whatever in his own opinion seems right;

Moshe points out that heretofore they had not observed the prescribed order in their worship, because during their migratory life in the wilderness it had been impossible to do so. In the wilderness, where they had no abiding, but were continually removing from place to place, and could not always observe punctually and precisely the exact order and time of their sacrifices and other things, nor offer them at any certain place, and many were doubtless neglected by them; see Amo_5:25.

Deu 12:12  and you will rejoice in the presence of Adonai your God - you, your sons and daughters, your male and female slaves and the Levi staying with you, inasmuch as he has no share or inheritance with you.

There are many people who say just because someone is not mentioned does not mean they can’t do a job they think they are called to do. An example is women think they can be leaders of congregations this is NOT Adonai’s will. Here in verse 12 we see that Adonai does take into account the daughter of Israel. In the Hebrew the word “Bath” is used.

Deu 12:14  but do it in the place Adonai will choose in one of your tribal territories; there is where you are to offer your burnt offerings and do everything I order you to do.

You see from this passage that there would be other specific places that offering would be offered to Adonai other than Jerusalem.

Deu 12:15  However, you may slaughter and eat meat wherever you live and whenever you want, in keeping with the degree to which Adonai your God has blessed you. The unclean and the clean may eat it, as if it were gazelle or deer.

Wherever and whenever but not whatever you want to eat.

Deu 12:16  But don't eat the blood; pour it out on the ground like water.

Rare bloody food is unclean.

Deu 12:19  As long as you are living on your property, take care not to abandon the Levi.

This is why we tithe. By each person giving 10% of what the Lord provides for them it helps your spiritual leader to focus on His job of feeding you. The work of the Lord is a consuming fire and if your leader is out doing other work He can not focus on your spiritual needs.

Deu 12:23  Just take care not to eat the blood, for the blood is the life,

This scripture ties together with Yochanan 19 when the soldier puts the spear into Yeshua’s side. And His blood gets poured out on the rock. The Blood of the Pesach lamb had to be spilled out so it could go on the door posts. The Blood of Messiah the Pesach lamb had to be spilled out so it could give us life.

Deu 12:25  Do not eat it, so that things will go well with you and with your children after you, as you do what Adonai sees as right.

Many people say that very famous line “I’m a good person”. They might be in there own mind but good is what Adonai sees as right. As Yeshua said Mat 19:17, Mark 10:18

Deu 12:28  Obey and pay attention to everything I am ordering you to do, so that things will go well with you and with your descendants after you forever, as you do what Adonai sees as good and right.

A pretty good promise. If the father’s follow HIS ways the children will keep in line and also their descendents. But if they don’t…

Deu 12:30  be careful, after they have been destroyed ahead of you, not to be trapped into following them; so that you inquire after their gods and ask, 'How did these nations serve their gods? I want to do the same.'

The Lord knows we are enticed by strange things. I call them “eye candy”. But He says not to get involved with the Goyim practices. Christ mass and easter

Deu 12:31  You must not do this to Adonai your God! For they have done to their gods all the abominations that Adonai hates! They even burn up their sons and daughters in the fire for their gods!

There are things that Adonai hates. The things He does not ordain are the things He finds offensive. The things people do that HE does not tell us to do in the lines of faith and HIS order are abominations.

D’varim/Deuteronomy 13 -

The admonition of the closing verse of the last chapter introduces a new series of warnings intended to serve as a further safeguard against violation of these duties. The true modes and forms of worship have been laid down: the next step is to legislate against the authors and abettors of false ones.

In this chapter the Israelites are taught how to discern a false prophet, shun and punish him, Deu_13:1, what to do with enticers to idolatry, not only not to consent to them, but, without favour and affection to them, endeavor to bring them to just punishment, and be the first that should inflict it on them, Deu_13:6 and how to behave towards a city drawn into idolatry, as to inquire the truth of it; then make war against it; destroy all in it, men, women, children, and cattle; and burn the spoil of it, and suffer not anything at all belonging to it to cleave unto them, Deu_13:12.

Deu (13:1) "Everything I am commanding you, you are to take care to do. Do not add to it or subtract from it.

Messiah’s last written words to us;

Rev 22:18  I warn everyone hearing the words of the prophecy in this book that if anyone adds to them, God will add to him the plagues written in this book.

Rev 22:19  And if anyone takes anything away from the words in the book of this prophecy, God will take away his share in the Tree of Life and the holy city, as described in this book.

Deu 13:3  (13:4) you are not to listen to what that prophet or dreamer says. For Adonai your God is testing you, in order to find out whether you really do love Adonai your God with all your heart and being.

Deu 13:4  (13:5) You are to follow Adonai your God, fear him, obey his mitzvot, listen to what he says, serve him and cling to him;

The test are always there. The Lord is looking into our hearts and seeing if we are listening to Him.

The word seduce is used in verse 6. Seduction is used many times by women in the bible to pull a man away from His calling.

Deu 13:1  (13:2) "If a prophet or someone who gets messages while dreaming arises among you and he gives you a sign or wonder,

Deu 13:2  (13:3) and the sign or wonder comes about as he predicted when he said, 'Let's follow other gods, which you have not known; and let us serve them,'

Deu 13:3  (13:4) you are not to listen to what that prophet or dreamer says. For Adonai your God is testing you, in order to find out whether you really do love Adonai your God with all your heart and being.

It is Adonai that allows us to go thru tests. Adonai does not TEMPT us. In these 3 verses there is a test in and unto itself. How are you going to test the prophets words if you don’t know Scripture and your Kings ways? Read Acts 10:9-16 we notice that Kefa never and I do repeat NEVER eats the food why? Also if Adonai does not tempt but tests who is the voice? It does not matter in great detail about those two questions except to know Adonai never changes. And if HE never changes would HE say eat the shrimp, lobster and whatever else? No. Verse 3 talks about love with all our hearts. Many people have many different ideas what love is. Some women will say if you don’t bring them flowers every week you don’t love them. Others will say that if you don’t say I love you each day then you don’t love them. So with so many definitions of love out there who’s opinion is the best? Adonai’s is the best, and what is HIS definition of love? Joh 14:15  "If you love me, you will keep my commands;

When we go on to read the rest of the chapter and the next 2, Yeshua expands on this thought. But still the base is the same.

Deu 13:4  (13:5) You are to follow Adonai your God, fear him, obey his mitzvot, listen to what he says, serve him and cling to him;

Adonai is exhorting us to CLING to HIM. H1692  דּבק  dâbaq BDB Definition: 1) to cling, stick, stay close, cleave, keep close, stick to, stick with, follow closely, join to, overtake, catch, 1a2) to stay with, to be joined together, to pursue closely.

Deu 13:5  (13:61) and that prophet or dreamer is to be put to death; because he urged rebellion against Adonai your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt and redeemed you from a life of slavery; in order to seduce you away from the path Adonai your God ordered you to follow. This is how you are to rid your community of this wickedness.

I wonder if so many people in Christendom would be calling themselves prophet and prophetess if they knew the rules for if you were found to be wrong?

Deu 13:6  (13:7) "If your brother the son of your mother, or your son, or your daughter, or your wife whom you love, or your friend who means as much to you as yourself, secretly tries to entice you to go and serve other gods, which you haven't known, neither you nor your ancestors -

Deu 13:7  (13:8) gods of the peoples surrounding you, whether near or far away from you, anywhere in the world —

Deu 13:8  (13:9) you are not to consent, and you are not to listen to him; and you must not pity him or spare him; and you may not conceal him.

Deu 13:9  (13:10) Rather, you must kill him! Your own hand must be the first one on him in putting him to death, and afterwards the hands of all the people.

From this we see the zeal for Adonai’s ways that He desires we have. This is why Sha’ul did what he did here in the next scripture: Act 7:57  At this, they began yelling at the top of their voices, so that they wouldn't have to hear him; and with one accord, they rushed at him,

Act 7:58  threw him outside the city and began stoning him. And the witnesses laid down their coats at the feet of a young man named Sha'ul.

Act 7:59  As they were stoning him, Stephen called out to God, "Lord Yeshua! Receive my spirit!"

Deu 13:11  (13:12) Then all Isra'el will hear about it and be afraid, so that they will stop doing such wickedness as this among themselves.

If this was the law of the land in America we would not have the murder problem we do today. Do you know that murderers on average only spend answers.com the average is 25 to life without parole or if they tell the truth they might only get 10 years to 25 without parole

Deu 13:17  (13:18) none of what has been set apart for destruction is to stay in your hands. Then Adonai will turn from his fierce anger and show you mercy, have compassion on you and increase your numbers, as he swore to your ancestors —

Deu 13:18  (13:19) provided you listen to what Adonai says and obey all his mitzvot that I am giving you today, thus doing what Adonai your God sees as right.

Listening that is our hardest thing to do. A parent telling there child you do not have to do that. But what does the teenager do? Adonai is commanding those who follow HIS Perfect was to not allow any of their pagan things inside where you live. Read Revelation 3:14-19. Adonai speaks about getting rid of unholy things in D’varim 13:17 completely because what we see in Rev. 3 is that by product.

D’varim/Deuteronomy 14 -

The Israelites are not to adopt superstitious customs in mourning, Deu_14:1, Deu_14:2. The different kinds of clean and unclean animals, vv. 3-20. Nothing to be eaten that death of itself, Deu_14:21. Concerning offerings which, from distance cannot be carried to the altar of God, and which may be turned into money, Deu_14:22-26. The Levite is not to be forsaken, Deu_14:27. The third year’s tithe for the Levite, stranger, widow, etc., Deu_14:28, Deu_14:29.

Deu 14:1  "You are the people of Adonai your God. You are not to gash yourselves or shave the hair above your foreheads in mourning for the dead,

Deu 14:2  because you are a people set apart as holy for Adonai your God. Adonai your God has chosen you to be his own unique treasure out of all the peoples on the face of the earth.

you shall not cut yourselves ... for the dead It was a common practice of idolaters, both on ceremonious occasions of their worship (1Ki_18:28), and at funerals (compare Jer_16:6; Jer_41:5), to make ghastly incisions on their faces and other parts of their persons with their finger nails or sharp instruments. The making a large bare space between the eyebrows was another heathen custom in honor of the dead (see on Lev_19:27, Lev_19:28; see on Lev_21:5). Such indecorous and degrading usages, being extravagant and unnatural expressions of hopeless sorrow were to be carefully avoided by the Israelites, as derogatory to the character, and inconsistent with the position, of those who were the people of God [Deu_14:2]. The Lord chose us to be His light to the Goyim. A people set apart on His ways not the evil ways of the world. This is what Kefa (Peter) was talking about in 1 Kefa 2:9

Deu 14:3  "You are not to eat anything disgusting.

The word Adonai uses in Hebrew for disgusting is H8441  תּעבה  /  תּועבה  tô‛êbah

BDB Definition: a disgusting thing, abomination, abominable. Verses 14;3-21 goes over what animals are good to eat in God’s standards.

Deu 14:21  "You are not to eat any animal that dies naturally; although you may let a stranger staying with you eat it, or sell it to a foreigner; because you are a holy people for Adonai your God. "You are not to boil a young animal in its mother's milk.

H5237  נכרי  nokrîy BDB Definition: foreign, alien, foreign woman, harlot,  unknown, unfamiliar (figuratively). In verse 21 we have all the cooking instructions for kosher.

Deu 14:22  "Every year you must take one tenth of everything your seed produces in the field,

Deu 14:23  and eat it in the presence of Adonai your God. In the place where he chooses to have his name live you will eat the tenth of your grain, new wine and olive oil, and the firstborn of your cattle and sheep, so that you will learn to fear Adonai your God always.

Your local congregation. This is how you are to support your rabbi. They are the ones God has chosen to do there ministry work and you are the ones holding there hands up like Yehoshua and Caleb for Moshe. And we see that in verse 27. We also saw in verse 24 prosperity if Adonai has sought to keep us humble and poor then we would be unable to go to Jerusalem. Also Adonai foreknew there would be a time when Jews could not go to Israel because there was not an Israel. It is the belief that Adonai chooses the places all around the globe to place HIS name.

Deu 14:28  At the end of every three years you are to take all the tenths of your produce from that year and store it in your towns.

Every third year, on the other hand, they were to separate the whole of the tithe from the year's produce (“bring forth,” sc., from the granary), and leaven it in their gates (i.e., their towns), and feed the Levites, the strangers, and the widows and orphans with it.

D’Varim / Deuteronomy 15 -

The Sabbatical year of release, Deu_15:1. The manner in which this release shall take place, Deu_15:2-5. Of lending to the poor, and the disposition in which it should be done, Deu_15:6-11. Of the Hebrew servant who has served six years, and who shall be dismissed well furnished, Deu_15:12-15. The ceremony of boring the ear, when the servant wishes to continue with his master, Deu_15:16-18. Of the firstlings of the flock and herd, Deu_15:19, Deu_15:20. Nothing shall be offered that has any blemish, Deu_15:21. The sacrifice to be eaten both by the clean and unclean, except the blood, which is never to be eaten, but poured out upon the ground, Deu_15:22, Deu_15:23.

This is the chapter the people in the south during the civil war did not read. They probably read the first part but defiantly did not read the second. That is why we must have all of Gods word or nothing.

Slavery is only for a brief period of time while you are in debt. But it can ONLY last 6 years.

Deu 15:1  "At the end of every seven years you are to have a sh'mittah.

Deu 15:2  Here is how the sh'mittah is to be done: every creditor is to give up what he has loaned to his fellow member of the community — he is not to force his neighbor or relative to repay it, because Adonai's time of remission has been proclaimed.

This year of release typified the grace of the gospel, in which is proclaimed the acceptable year of the Lord; and by which we obtain the release of our debts, that is, the pardon of our sins. The law is spiritual, and lays restraints upon the thoughts of the heart. We mistake, if we think thoughts are free from God's knowledge and check, so our thoughts should line up with HIS PERFECT WAYS.. That is a wicked heart indeed, which raises evil thoughts from the good law of God, as theirs did, who, because God had obliged them to the charity of forgiving, denied the charity of giving. Those who would keep from the act of sin, must keep out of their minds the very thought of sin. It is a dreadful thing to have the cry of the poor justly against us.

Deu 15:3  You may demand that a foreigner repay his debt, but you are to release your claim on whatever your brother owes you.

The foreigner here is the nokrie described previously.

Deu 15:5  if only you will listen carefully to what Adonai your God says and take care to obey all these mitzvot I am giving you today.

The pleading of our King with us HIS subjects to follow His order.

Deu 15:9  Guard yourself against allowing your heart to entertain the mean-spirited thought that because the seventh year, the year of sh'mittah is at hand, you would be stingy toward your needy brother and not give him anything; for then he may cry out to Adonai against you, and it will be your sin.

Deu 15:10  Rather, you must give to him; and you are not to be grudging when you give to him. If you do this, Adonai your God will bless you in all your work, in everything you undertake -

There is a saying whatever goes around comes around. In lines of Scripture Adonai is the one who keep score and it is He who watches what we do. And do we do it lovingly or not.

Deu 15:11  for there will always be poor people in the land. That is why I am giving you this order, 'You must open your hand to your poor and needy brother in your land.'

Now when Yeshua says words to the people you see the context of those who new only of Adonai’s ways.

Mat 11:5  the blind are seeing again, the lame are walking, people with tzara`at are being cleansed, the deaf are hearing, the dead are being raised, the Good News is being told to the poor

Mat 26:11  The poor you will always have with you, but you will not always have me.

Deu 15:12  "If your kinsman, a Hebrew man or woman, is sold to you, he is to serve you for six years; but in the seventh year, you are to set him free.

Deu 15:13  Moreover, when you set him free, don't let him leave empty-handed;

Deu 15:14  but supply him generously from your flock, threshing-floor and winepress; from what Adonai your God has blessed you with, you are to give to him.

The so-called Christian slave owners did not want to read this. If a black man excepted Yeshua as Lord then that person would now be your brother and have to be released. If you did not witness to the slave then you did not follow the great commission. Now also you have to set him free and provide for him.

Deu 15:17  then take an awl, and pierce his ear through, right into the door; and he will be your slave forever. Do the same with your female slave.

The Nagaland account. How the gentiles of that land engrafted into the Jews in the dispora and did this ceremony.

Deu 15:20  Each year you and your household are to eat it in the presence of Adonai your God in the place which Adonai will choose.

Once again we are Commanded by God to follow His ways and His festivals. In chapter 16 the Lord specifically commands all Hebrew men the times there presence is required in Jerusalem or in the place He would choose for Adonai’s Moadim. Adonai knew there would be no physical temple for 2000 years. Also see notes from the Pesach study.

This week's message

The Remnant's Call TV show

Holy days

Beth Goyim Messianic Congregation is like the first congregation/church at Antioch. Jew and Gentile one in Messiah. So it was in the beginning so shall it be in the end. Knowing Yeshua (Jesus) the Messiah is not about religion it is about faith.

Learn about your Heritage. Yeshua “Jesus” is the same always and He never stopped being a Jew. Come and get back what Hasatan “satan” has stolen from you. If you are saved you are engrafted into the Hebrew Olive Tree. Come to Beth Goyim and see things from the original “Jewish” perspective.
